Alireza Kameli, managing director of National Iranian Gas Exports Company (NIGEC), said the company is considering export of gas to Europe but the high cost of gas delivery to European destinations makes investment in the sector economically unjustifiable.
“We are trying to figure out novel methods for export of our gas to European destinations and these methods do not include construction of new pipelines,” he said.
He said one of the methods is using the already built pipelines to send Iran’s gas to Europe.
“This might need construction of much shorter pipelines, hence reducing costs of projects,” he added.
Kameli said, however, NIGEC is considering several alternatives for exporting gas to European destinations.
