$1.1bn Russian Power Plant Deal

By John Lee.

PressTV reports that Technopromexport, part of Russia’s state industrial conglomerate Rostec, will build a 1.4-gigawatt thermal power plant in the port city of Bandar Abbas.

The project is estimated to cost €1 billion ($1.12 billion) which will be 85-percent financed through a Russian export loan, with the remainder provided by Iran. It is due to be completed within five years.

It will consist of four 350 megawatt units and a seawater desalination plant with a capacity of 200,000 cubic meters of water per day.

The company has considerable experience in building power plants overseas, including the Harta plant in neighbouring Iraq (pictured).
