Abbas Kazemi, head of the state-run National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), has said that Iran is in talks to help build a 200,000-bpd refinery in Spain.
“The safest way to increase the exports is investment in refineries abroad. On this basis, the petroleum ministry wants to invest in refineries abroad, whose crude oil [requirements] will be met by Iran,” he said.
According to the report from the Wall Street Journal, Kazemi didn’t name the Spanish companies involved in the talks, and spokespersons for both Repsol and Spanish Foreign Ministry denied knowledge of the talks.
