Kuwait has reportedly summoned the Iranian charge d’affaires to protest against a bid by Iran to develop a disputed offshore gas field.
According to TradeArabia, the field, known in Iran as the ‘Ashar’ field, and as the ‘Durra’ field by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, is the subject of negotiations between the three countries, which have yet to reach agreement on their sea borders in the Gulf.
Kuwaiti daily Al Jareeda reported on Monday that Iran has invited tenders to develop its oil and gas fields after the lifting of the international sanctions.
No significant exploration and or development has yet been carried out on the field, but recoverable gas reserves in are estimated at 200 billion cubic meters.
