Some sanctions against Iran continue to be suspended by the Trump administration, as part of the Obama era nuclear deal. Officials insist this is only an interim measure before a final decision by the US president next month.
The White House has also introduced new non-nuclear sanctions on Iranian nationals over allegations of cyberattacks.
