Iran, Turkey ready to open new chapter in relations, boost economic cooperation
The Presidents of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Turkey talked on phone and stated that they were ready to open a new chapter in relations between the two countries and promote Tehran-Ankara economic ties.
During the phone call between President Hassan Rouhani of Iran and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey that was initiated by the Turkish part on Wednesday, Dr Rouhani said: “In the past four years, big steps have been taken to develop and deepen ties between Iran and Turkey but to increase the trade figures between the two countries to $30bn, we need to make a jump in relations and cooperation”.
He added: “Iran is committed to realisation of the $30bn goal of Tehran-Ankara trade figures and currently, the opportunity for this jump in all field of mutual interest exists”.
On banking relations between the two countries, he said: “Developing banking cooperation will be a solid base for cementing Iran-Turkey ties and the major banks of the two countries should be encouraged to increase relations”.
Referring to regional cooperation between Iran and Turkey, President Rouhani said: “Bilateral and trilateral cooperation with Russia in regional issues, including the Astana negotiations are important and can contribute to regional peace and stability”.
Dr Rouhani also congratulated the holy month of Ramadan in advance and wished health for the President and prosperity for the Turkish nation.
The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan congratulated Dr Rouhani on his re-election in the recent presidential election and described his landslide victory in the election as a sign of his place among people.
“Turkey is determined to develop its ties with Tehran in all fields”, said Erdoğan adding: “Iran-Turkey relations are developing and it is imperative that these ties be further cemented in bilateral and regional fields”.
Stating that there is no obstacle on the path of deepening Tehran-Ankara ties, he said: “Regional cooperation between the two countries, especially in the Astana meeting, contributes to peace and stability in the region”.
“We can accelerate the Astana negotiations with cooperation between Iran, Russia and Turkey and even other countries with the aim of increasing peace and stability in the region,” the President of Turkey continued.
