Armenia’s Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan said he has ordered the establishment of a special task force to facilitate the development of trade with neighboring Iran.
Speaking in a meeting with Head of Iran’s Customs Office Masoud Karbasian and his entourage in Yerevan, Karapetyan highlighted the great potential for the expansion of economic ties between the two countries, saying that customs cooperation can help contribute to tapping into the potential.
The Armenian premier noted that in a recent cabinet meeting, he has ordered the relevant ministries to establish a task force to enhance and facilitate trade with Iran.
He added that the task force will also discuss the prospect of the establishment of a free trade zone along the common borders.
Karbasian, for his part, voiced Iran’s readiness to cooperate with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) through a free trade zone, saying that Armenia can play a major role as a bridge between Iran and the EAEU and help implement joint investment projects.
