Both AirAsia X Berhad (airline code D7) and Thai AirAsia X (airline code XJ) announced Tehran as their latest destination in the AirAsia X Group’s route network, connecting both Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok directly to the Iranian capital, Tehran.
Direct flights to Tehran from Kuala Lumpur (klia2) and Bangkok (Don Mueang International Airport) will be operated three times weekly, with the commencement date set on 21 June 2016 and 22 June 2016 respectively.
Benyamin Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia X said:
“We are very happy to be in Tehran today to announce this new connectivity into our flight network connecting Asia and Australasia with the Middle East. Iran is a large and growing economy and Tehran is a brilliant business city. The recent lifting of sanctions opens up exciting new prospects for Iran as a tourist destination.
We believe that the revival of direct flights to Tehran from Kuala Lumpur is timely and we foresee that our direct flights from both Asean cities of Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok can improve bilateral relations while encouraging trade and tourism activities between the cities.”
