Nuclear verification and monitoring work in Iran, and the renovation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) nuclear application laboratories, will be among the key activities for the Agency this year, Director General Yukiya Amano said in his introductory statement to the IAEA Board of Governors today.
Mr Amano announced the establishment of a new Office of Safeguards Verification in Iran in the Department of Safeguards to carry out verification and monitoring of Iran’s nuclear-related commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which has been implemented as of 16 January.
He added that, in light of Security Council resolution 2231, Iran is now invited to participate in the full range of Agency activities, including technical meetings, conferences, training courses and workshops.
“The Agency has found no indication of the diversion of declared nuclear material from peaceful nuclear activities in Iran. Iran’s Additional Protocol has been provisionally implemented since January 16th, 2016“, Amano confirmed.
