The Italian Transport Minister Graziano Delrio and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Akhoundi have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) calling for the return of State owned Italian railway company Ferrovie dello Stato to Iran.
According to Italy24, the company has been active in Iran since 2001.
The holding company and its subsidiaries Italferr (engineering) and Italcertifer (certification) will carry out contracts worth up to €5 billion.
Italferr has been selected for the project of the high-speed railway Tehran-Qom-Isfahan and is following the electrification of the Tehran-Mashhad stretch, while Italcertifer is working on the preliminary design of the test center of the Iranian railways.
