Iran Increases Food Exports to Russia

By John Lee.

The head of Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (TCCIMA), Massoud Khansari (pictured), has announced that 500 trucks carrying foodstuffs have been dispatched to Russia in the past week, via the Azerbaijan Republic.

According to Tasnim News Agency, Iran has made great efforts in recent months to replace Turkey in the Russian market after Moscow decided to sever trade ties with Ankara following tensions between the two countries.

Khansari said:

“Currently, an appropriate opportunity has been created for us in the Russian market with the withdrawal of Turkey.

“Russia, which has a 150-million-strong market, used to meet a major part of its requirements in the food sector from Turkey.”
