Minister: Iran can Join WTO in 2 Yrs

Iran’s Minister of Industries, Mines and Trade, Mohammadreza Nematzadeh, has said that he is optimistic that Iran can join the World Trade Organization (WTO) within the next two years.

The country has been trying to join the WTO since 1995, and was admitted to the organization as an observer in 2005, but following the imposition of sanctions some countries opposed its membership.

The Minister said held talks with representatives of 20 countries at a recent conference in Kenya, and that all of them viewed Iran’s accession to the WTO as ‘positive’.
