IS-Linked Cell Arrested near Iraqi Border

General Mohammad Ali Jafari (pictured), the head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), has told ISNA news agency that security forces have arrested members of a jihadist cell linked with the Islamic State group (IS, ISIS, ISIL) in Kermanshah province, near the country’s border with Iraq.

According to AFP, he provided no details on how many people were arrested or when the arrests took place, but said Iranian security forces were monitoring attempts by militants to “create insecurity” in Iran.

The IRGC, which is independent of the army, has advisory missions in Iraq and Syria at the invitation of their respective governments.
